NEW Zoo

The NEW Zoo in Green Bay is a great place to take your family. After living in Jacksonville and visiting the very large zoo there, we really didn’t know what to expect when we visited the Green Bay Zoo. Well, we sure weren’t disappointed. It was one of the first places we visited when we moved here and we just love it. The size is perfect. It is large enough that it has plenty of animals but small enough so you can see everything and enjoy it!

Penguins

The NEW Zoo is located about 10 miles from downtown Green Bay, WI and is open 7 days per week, 365 days per year! They open and close at different times throughout the year, so please make sure you check the Monthly Activities in the left column for operating hours as well as up coming activities.

The Zoo has several different areas with a wide variety of animals. They are housed in nice clean cages or big wide-open areas. It is easy to see that the animals are very well taken care of.

African Safari Lion

This area has two beautiful female lions named Etana and Aija. There is also a really fun exhibit with penguins and ducks. The penguins are so much fun to watch, you could easily loose track of time!

Giraffe

The African Safari also has the Giraffe Discovery Center. This super exhibit has two giraffe’s named Hodari and Zuri. There are certain times when you can feed them, which is really fun, especially for kids. The area has a tall platform so the giraffes can come right up to you outside during the warmer months. During the colder months, you can see them in the Giraffe Exhibit Building that also has educational displays and African artifacts. Check out the feeding time in the Activities section to the right.

Down Under in Australia

The Australia section has really cute wallabies hopping around. There are also emus as well as other Australian wildlife.

Northern Plains Prairie Dogs

This area has my favorite exhibit – the Prairie Dogs! They are in an open area so you can see them really close up. They are so cute and are always active. The Northern Plains also has a large area with bison and elk. It is nice to see them roaming in a wide open area.

Bison
Wisconsin Trails

The Wisconsin Trails section has another family favorite, the river otters. They have a large home and always seem to be having such a great time. There are also white tail deer and black bears. It is great as a non-native Wisconsinite to see what animals inhabit the state.

The Northern Trail Moose

Can you find the moose? The moose has such a large area to live in that he is hard to find. There are also beautiful owls and other creatures in the Northern Trail section.

The Children’s Zoo Petting Zoo

Of course, the Children’s Zoo is our youngest daughter’s favorite area. There is a really nice and very clean petting zoo where you can feed the sheep and goats. You can also pet Annabelle, the reindeer. There is also a pretty bridge that the goats walk across as well as a fun playground.

The New Zoo has a cute train that the kids enjoy riding. There is also a great gift shop as well as the Congo Café that has really good and reasonable food.

The NEW Zoo is a fun and inexpensive way to spend the day with your family. Please make sure you take the time to visit. You won’t be disappointed!!
